Honing Healthy Habits

Is there something that you know would improve your health, effectiveness, career, relationships or happiness but can’t seem to consistently do? Have you tried to change in the past and may have been successful for a while but just couldn’t or sustain it long enough to make it a habit. What would it mean to you to initiate and follow through on a plan to make that change?

Lasting change is not about finding some program or product; it’s about using your strengths, discovering your journey and connecting with what is most meaningful and fulfilling to you personally.

Life After Loss

Job loss, death of a loved one, separation or divorce, a partner working away from home, loss of a home through the trauma of a disaster, loss of a community after relocation all need to be acknowledged and accepted.

Are you recovering from missing someone or something that was a significant part of your life? What is your next step? Is it time to make a conscious choice versus live by default? How can you use the energy inherent in this transition time? What is this calling you to become?

(Please note that coaching is different than psychological counseling and can be used in combination with counseling. In coaching we are not trying to correct psychological imbalances. We help people to draw from their strengths, their successes in the past and in other areas of their life, and to enlist the support of others to make the small changes that add up to having a big impact on health and happiness.)

Susanne has life experiences that includes loss of significant others, jobs and community. Her training includes a Workshop for Grief and Loss: Surviving and Thriving (for Practioners) presented by Jane Bissler, PhD (grief counselor and author) and Deneene Florino (counselor, hospice worker and caregiver for renowned grief psyhologist Elizabeth Kubler-Ross).

Work & Life in Balance

Do you get frustrated by not having enough time to do the things that are deeply important to you? Are you overwhelmed with trying to balance work and home life? Could you be more efficient at work instead of being controlled by emails and urgent tasks? Would quality time with friends and family or alone-time make a difference for your life satisfaction? As hard as your try and with the best intentions does the work and life balance tilt you in ways you can’t manage?

Living Well Coaching can help you to make changes to live the life you dream of.
Susanne will guide you to:

  • Clarify what the ideal work-life balance is for you at this time in your life.
  • Observe obstacles and their effects.
  • Identify competing commitments.
  • Experiment with which solutions have the biggest impact.
  • Shore up motivation by bringing to the forefront of the mind what finding this balance would mean and why it’s important.

  • Set measureable actions that are realistic.

Nourished and Satisfied

Is it difficult to eat the foods that you believe are best for your body? Do the challenges of demands on your time, stress, tempting social situations and cravings derail your attempts to manage your diet? Whether we are trying to manage our weight or stick to a specific diet for health reasons, controlling what we eat can be one of the biggest challenges many people face. The quandary is that unlike the alcoholic who can remove alcohol from their life and surroundings, we must eat to live!

Living Well Coaching can help you to make decisions around food that leave you feeling nourished and satisfied.
Susanne will guide you to:

  • Observe what, when and how you eat.
  • Notice when you are able to ingest what you know feels best and what circumstances make that difficult.
  • Focus on why it is so important to you personally to have some control over what you ingest.
  • Use your strengths to manage critical or tempting situations.
  • Identify any hidden and competing commitments (that can be very good reasons to do other than what you know is best for you).
  • Be mindful of different ways that you feel nourished and satisfied with other comforts and with food within your dietary guidelines.
  • Get motivated to eliminate tempting cues and make your plan to overcome challenging moments.
  • Set goals with realistic expectations.
  • Enlist the support you need to be successful.

Susanne will support you guided by what you know is best for your body and can help you seek out and decipher what you need to know. If asked for, Susanne can offer her perspective as a consultant trained in Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, which sees diet as a primary means to be healthy.

Downsizing Stress

Do you find that you are sometimes too tired or overwhelmed to manage your stress? Is it hard to stick with a technique long enough to know if it can work for you? Are there times when you can’t access what you know helps much less learn a new technique? Is it difficult to know where and how to change a pattern that is comfortable even if you know it’s not ideal?

Living Well Coaching can help you to downsize stress in your life to only receive the positive effects of it. We know from science that we need some stress to create resilience but it’s the chronic fight/flight/freeze state that has detrimental effects. Susanne can offer techniques learned from her 15 years of training and teaching yoga and meditation to support your journey.

Susanne will guide you to:

  • Observe the circumstances that trigger stress and when similar situations arise that feel manageable.
  • Focus on what you are already doing to de-stress and when life flows more smoothly.
  • Use your strengths to manage stressful situations.
  • Identify what you think about the triggers for stress and become curious of any other perspectives.
  • Get motivated to eliminate tempting cues and make your plan to overcome challenging moments.
  • Set goals with realistic expectations.
  • Enlist the support you need to be successful.
